Candle Care
Did you know that there are some things you can do to make sure you get the best results out of your candle? Before we started this candle making journey we sure didn’t know, but now that we do we’re sharing this info with you!
- Trim Your Wick
Before you light your candle make sure the wick is only about 1/4 inch long. This will help you get a steady flame and less sooting. You can use a wick trimmer, nail clippers, or scissors to trim your wicks. - First Burn: keep it going until you get a full melt pool
This will help ensure you get the maximum use out of your candle. Extinquishing it too early for the first burn means that future burns will have a harder time reaching the edges of the candle. The length of time required will depend on the diameter of your candles. Handmade Curiosities’ candles will be approximately 3-4 hours. - Keep away from Children and Pets
Make sure your kids and fur babies don’t hurt themselves or cause any damage by keeping your candles out of reach of tiny hands and paws. - Don’t forget you’ve got it lit!
Ideally your candle should only be lit for a maximum of 4 hours. Never leave your candles burning unattended. - Don’t place candle on, or near, flammable materials
Wood or fabric surfaces, curtains, plants, etc do not make happy candle friends. - Avoid burning near drafts, or in air-tight spaces
This will help ensure even burning. - Don’t burn it all the way down
Stop the burn before all the wax is gone.
Soy Candle Imperfections
Soy candles are a natural material, and due to the handcrafted nature of our candles there are some imperfetions to be expected.
“Frosting” is when a light, snow-like texture appears on the surface of the candle.
“Wet Spots” appear when the wax pulls away slightly from glass surfaces.
Both of these affects are purely aesthetic and will not affect the life or scent qualiity from your candle.
